Bad Treats

I know everyone loves to give treats to dogs and maybe even spill scraps off their dinner plate.

There are several common people foods that are bad for dogs.
Chocolate is a well known example. Here are some more:

Xylitol is a common sweetener that is extremely toxic to dogs while harmless to humans. Small amounts can cause seizures, liver failure, and death. It may be found in gum, tooth paste, peanut butter, cereal, and sugar-free sweets. Read labels.

Caffeine has similar results but it's easier to avoid. Guard your coffee grounds and don't share drinks.

Bones are fun to give because dogs love them but they pose multiple risks from choking to internal damage.

To keep it simple, avoid the seeds, pit, core, or leaves of any fruit. The flesh is usually safe, but there are exceptions.

Grapes and raisins can cause sudden acute kidney failure.

Cherries, macadamia nuts, and avocado contain toxins.

Excess of greasy/fatty food such as gravy, potato chips, and nuts can cause pancreatitis.

Onions and garlic can cause hemolytic anemia, which may require a blood transfusion.

Moldy or spoiled food is not fine for Fido.
